The “Growing Opportunities for Older Indigenous Professionals” (NextFifty Initiative) program provides support to a cohort of 10 Indigenous individuals ages 50+ who reside in the state of Colorado to receive professional development programming from AISES aimed to increase their understanding of contemporary technical skills necessary for entering and thriving in today’s technology-driven workforce. Cohort participants can expect to enter, re-enter, or advance in the workforce through the Growing Opportunities for Older Indigenous Professionals program. AISES will prepare individuals for a full-time career, assist with advancing skillsets, acquire new skills, and strengthen the confidence needed to propel a new phase in their professional journey, resulting in increased financial security and improving the lives of older adults.
Eligibility
- Must be enrolled members of a federal or state recognized tribe.
- Must be born during or before the year of 1969 (Open to ages 50+)
- Must currently reside in the state of Colorado.
- Interest in entering, re-entering, or advancing in the workforce, particularly in STEM fields.
Selection of cohort will seek balance with respect to a diversity of tribes, STEM disciplines, and gender. Scholars in the program will receive one year of travel funding to attend the AISES National Conference and AISES Leadership Summit. Scholars are required to participate in skill-building, professional-development programming, and webinars.
To ensure the program improves their quality of life while increasing the financial earning potential of cohort participants during the program and beyond the grant cycle, AISES will provide the following: mentorship, skill building professional development, connection to AISES partners (i.e. leaders in industry, academia, philanthropy, and tribal governments and enterprises), and professional networking, including access to a virtual professional job fair. To support cohort members in participating in virtual aspects of the program and to further advance their own economic mobility through continued professional development and job seeking, AISES will ensure each participant receives a computer operating system.
